Avamere at Hillsboro is proud to announce that we are the recipient of the 2011 Bronze Quality Award from AHCA/NCAL. We would like to thank the staff for their hard work and commitment that made this award possible.

The AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award has been designed as a progressive three-step process to encourage the continuous learning and development of integrated quality systems to achieve performance excellence. Each progressive step requires a more detailed and comprehensive demonstration of quality integration and performance. The criteria for each step is based on the Baldrige National Quality Award Program’s core values and concepts.

Bronze—Commitment to Quality—Reviewed by independent examiners, applicants who receive the Bronze award are able to describe their mission, characteristics, and key challenges and to recognize the relationship of these factors to their ability to achieve performance improvement. The Bronze award recognizes that the provider has developed a foundation to begin a journey of continuous quality improvement, and does not necessarily correspond to any public measure of performance.

Avamere at Hillsboro Resident Celebrates 100 Years /senior-care-news/Avamere_at_Hillsboro_Resident_Celebrates_100_Years Wed, 10 Nov 2010 00:00:00 PST Avamere-Hillsboro-Resident-Celebrates-100-Years.jpgIrene will be 100 years old on November 5th, 2010!

She is spirited, positive and a hard-worker. She has lived in Walport, Yachats, Sherwood, Tualatin, Helvetia, Tigard, Vernonia, West Portland, Lake Grove, Aloha, Beaverton and Iowa. You name a town in the Portland Metropolitan area, and Irene has probably either lived there, worked there, or both! Currently Irene is a resident here in the senior assisted living apartments of Avamere at Hillsboro and has been since 2002

Irene was adopted by her grandparents when she was 3 weeks old. She speaks fondly of her adoptive parents and "thanks God that she was raised by them". She was married at 18, to a young farmer, George. They had three children together, Jim, Donald and Edward; and worked on farms ranging from 2 1/2 acres to 113 acres! Together they farmed everything from berries, potatoes, and hay to cows and hogs.

After being married almost 27 years, George died of cancer in May of 1955. She sold her house in Tigard and moved to West Portland where she worked at Portland Canning Co. and Libby’s Canning Co.

Donald, her second son married in 1956. She was introduced to her new daughter-in-law’s uncle (Ralph) and they got married in 1957; they were married for 14 years.

Irene has an in conquerable spirit: “Don’t let anything get you down. Work through it. It will pull you down if you let it. Don’t worry about things. Walk by faith, trust and obedience in the Lord.”
